Three separate complaints were lodged against actor-turned-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna at various police stations in the city for his “derogatory” remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a meeting at Vijayawada on Friday.

Though no cases have been registered, all the three complaints were entered in the general diary of the police stations concerned.

“A complaint was lodged by BJP MLC N Ramchander Rao against Mr Balakrishna and a case will be registered only after seeking legal opinion and verifying the video clippings of his speech,” said G. Jagan, inspector of the Osmania University police station.

In the petition, Mr Rao said that Hindupur legislator Balakrishna had used ‘highly’ abusive language against the Prime Minister and his statements were goading people to violence.

“He used abusive words and said PM Modi can’t even hide in bunkers...” Mr Rao said. The abusive language used by Mr Balakrishna constituted the crime of inciting people against a person or party or a group of persons, he said.

Mr Rao requested the OU police to register a case against the actor and initiate criminal proceedings for his “objectionable and lewd gesticulations” pointing to the Prime Minister and hurting the sentiments of people by abusing the head of the government.

A complaint was lodged at the Jubilee Hills police station by activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morhca, while another complaint was lodged at the Banjara Hills police station by Vidudala Prasad, a resident of Banjara Hills.
