Those who indulge in illegal bike racing in for big trouble

The Cyberabad police will hereafter register criminal cases against those found performing dangerous acts on bikes and participating in unauthorised bike racing events, said Cyberabad Commissioner C.V. Anand on Monday.

Speaking at a counselling programme organised for the teenagers who were caught near Gandipet Lake on Sunday for performing dangerous acts on motorcycles, Mr. Anand said the police will register cases under the Gambling Act against those taking part in these activities.

“Till now, we had a lenient view considering the career of the students. But from now on, we are taking it seriously and will not spare anyone. Cases will also be registered against parents for allowing their under-aged children to drive the vehicle,” he said.

On Sunday, the Narsingi police detained 83 teenagers for assembling near the Gandipet Lake and performing stunts of daredevilry on their motorcycles and mopeds. Amongst them was a 12-year-old boy too.

They teenagers were later released following an undertaking given by their parents, but asked to attend the counselling programme on Monday.

Mr. Anand administered an oath to the teenagers that they will not indulge in such activities in future.

He also cited examples where in teenagers were killed while performing such dangerous acts. A short video was also shown to them about road safety.
