Thieves made off with gold jewellery weighing nearly 600 grams, over 1.5 kilo of silver articles and Rs.50,000 from five flats in Dolphin Estate in Miyapur during daytime on Monday.
All the burgled flats were on the third floor of Block-B of the estate near Janayapriya Enclave. Watchman of Block-B was staying away from work for the past four days and this apparently made the job of the offenders easier, the police said.
The estate has 120 flats, nine on each floor. The burglars went up the third floor and broke locks of the doors. “One had a central lock but it was not embedded into the wooden frame of the door. Apparently it came off when the offenders used little force,” Madhapur DCP, T. Yoganand, said.
Since the watchman was absent, occupants of the Block-B are clueless as to how the offenders came inside. There were no surveillance cameras. An intercom facility earlier available was done away with due to maintenance cost, the police said. Investigators believe the burglary was committed between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Burglary at Jeedimetla
In another case, burglars took away gold ornaments weighing 120 grams from the house of soft skills trainer, Subrahmanya Prasad, in Indiranagar-B of Rodamistrynagar in Jeedimetla. The house owner went to his village near Proddutur of Kadapa district a week ago.
The thieves entered the house by breaking open the main door lock.
