The private initiative of K.P.C. Gandhi, former director, A.P. Forensic Science Lab, seems to have become the last resort for truth and justice in the country
Truth is stranger than fiction. Not just government departments, even security agencies and police are turning to the Truth Labs for accuracy.
The private initiative of K.P.C. Gandhi, former director, A.P. Forensic Science Lab, seems to have become the last resort for truth and justice in the country.
During the last five years it has succeeded in cracking cases which the police couldn’t solve. At least in 100 cases it got investigation to be carried out afresh. “All that is required is a little extra effort. But the investigating agencies are not doing this,” said Dr. Gandhi.
He was delivering a talk on ‘The use of science and technology in delivery of justice’ at the monthly meeting of the Medically Aware and Responsible Citizens of Hyderabad (MARCH). The 210 meeting attended by top-notch doctors was chaired by eminent scientist P.M. Bhargava.
Without mincing words, Dr. Gandhi drove home the bitter truth that there was no sense of responsibility and accountability in the country. He cited many cases to show how doctors of reputed hospitals willingly cooperated in fabricating evidence and turning cases of homicide into suicide.
But the Truth Lab was able to unearth the truth. It had succeeded in filling the gap in forensic science sector. “But the police is feeling challenged,” Dr. Gandhi remarked. He referred to an infertility clinic in Mumbai which played fraud in a surrogacy case and a top Delhi company which mixed animal fat in the ghee supplied to a famous temple. All these cases were detected by the Truth Lab.
The quick and efficient disposal of cases by it had made many departments turning to it for help. During the last five year 4,500 cases were referred to the Truth Lab from all over the country. Those who sought its help included CBI, NIA, CRPF, MNCs and corporates. “I didn’t expect I will be handling such a range of cases”, Dr. Gandhi said.
But truth is no road to fortune. Dr. Gandhi’s Truth Lab is running in losses as it charges just Rs. 5,000 per case. “My committee members are sore on this point. But I can’t help. That’s what I have decided to charge,” Dr. Gandhi remarked.
