Five photographers of The Hindu walked away with honours, winning six prizes in competitions organised by the State Government on the occasion of the World Photography Day here on Sunday.
Giving away the awards, Minister for Information D.K. Aruna said photographs captured every emotion of the situation. She drew applause from the gathering of lensmen in the Jubilee Hall when she said the charm and depth of black and white photographs still ruled over colour.
Others present included Information Commissioner R.V. Chandravadan, Chairman, Press Academy of A.P., T. Surender who is in the jury, apart from Registrar of the Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, S.K. Rahman and senior photo journalist K. Sudhakar Reddy.
Mr. Chandravadan recalled how photography had evolved over the years from being an art to a science and said it had become so specialised that there was a sub-speciality called ‘Life Photography’.
Apart from others, the award-winning lensmen from The Hindu were K.R. Deepak, Special News Photographer, Visakhapatnam, who got two prizes, S. Ram Babu (Rajahmundry), Ch. V.S. Vijayabhasker Rao (Vijayawada) and G.N. Rao (Khammam) and R. K. Balachander Goud (internee).
