The travails of the Dilsukhnagar blast victims, which were highlighted in these columns, have now caught the attention of authorities. The process to release ex-gratia cheques worth Rs. 6 lakh each for permanent disability to Maruthi Bhujang Rao Kamaji and Yadagiri has been initiated by authorities.

On Tuesday, doctors of the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital issued incapacitation certificates for both victims.

“Yadagiri lost his left eye while Maruthi his right eye, in the impact of the blast. We did the necessary tests and handed over the certificates to the victims,” said S. D. Eye Hospital Superintendent Dr. P. V. Nanda Kumar Reddy.

Yadagiri, a resident of L.B. Nagar, had not received any compensation so far.

Although Maruthi was eligible for a compensation of Rs. 6 lakh for loss of the right eye, he had received Rs. 1 lakh from the authorities. Officials, however, have not clarified on the timeline for granting jobs to the kin of the deceased and to those who lost their limbs and eye.
