The Telangana Government Junior Lecturers' Association (TGJLA) will oppose any move to close down Government Junior Colleges in the State.
In a statement here, Ch. Hemachander, president and Mohammed Ismail, general secretary of TGJLA said that the Government is escaping from its responsibility of providing education to poor students. They said basic facilities like permanent staff, buildings, and infrastructure should be provided first by the Government for the colleges to attract students and survive. Permission to private colleges should be regulated and the uneconomic ratio should be reduced from 40:30 (Arts and Sciences) to 30:20 immediately.
He said that 70 p.c. of the faculty in Government junior colleges is now hired on contract basis while it is sponsoring students to study in corporate colleges paying a hefty amount of Rs. 30,000 per student.
