Mild tension prevailed at Pochamma temple in Lalapet when residents of the area tried to prevent the authorities from constructing a wall adjacent to the temple on government land.

Former Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy, protestors and leaders of other political parties were taken into preventive custody and later released as they staged demonstration alleging that officials were acting against wishes of the people.

Locals represented to the government to use the open government land adjacent to the temple as pathway. The wall on the open land was demolished and people started using the open space to reach the temple from north-east direction for quite some time.

GHMC move

Recently, the GHMC authorities approached the Lalaguda police seeking protection for rebuilding the wall to protect the government land.

“The request of the public allowing them to use the government land was put before the GHMC standing committee, but permission was not granted to the proposal,” the police said.
