Home Minister Nayini Narsimha Reddy has stated that Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University will soon be renamed Suravaram Pratap Reddy Telugu University.

Speaking after paying floral tributes at the statue of freedom-fighter, writer and journalist Suravaram Pratap Reddy on his 121st birth anniversary, Mr. Narsimha Reddy said Suravaram Pratap Reddy had also fought relentlessly for the revival and spread of the Telugu language that was banned during the Nizam's rule during his lifetime.

He stated that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had already taken a decision to rename Telugu University after Suravaram Pratap Reddy and the process would be completed in the next two-three months. He felt that there was every need to publicise the life of Suravaram Pratap Reddy as he fought against odds for revival of the common language of the Telangana people, Telugu, when it was banned by the Nizams. Suggesting that the present day youth draw inspiration from Suravaram Pratap Reddy's life and his fighting qualities, the Home Minister said the government would make all efforts to reprint his writings and pass on them to future generations so that they were helpful as reference material in the field of research. Members of Suravaram Pratap Reddy's family, his relatives, writers, Dasharath Reddy, Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Krishnavardhan Reddy, Nagalinga Reddy, Chalama Reddy, and J. Chennaiah paid tributes to Suravaram at the event organised by the Suravaram Pratap Reddy Sahitya Vyjayanthi Trust.
