Proposes a scheme for the safety of women. TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu announced the broad contours of the proposed scheme after meeting the members of party’s manifesto committee.

After putting the interactive voice response system (IVRS) to use for selection of candidates, the Telugu Desam Party is now mulling leveraging technology to ensure safety and security of women.

Free mobile phones to women

The party plans to provide free mobile phones to women from BPL families equipped with the GPRS technology as also a helpline number for women in distress. While the phone provides communication, the GPRS technology enables authorities to locate the exact spot from where the call was made. Once the location is known, it would be easier for the police to rush to the spot and provide necessary security to women in distress.

TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu announced the broad contours of the proposed scheme after meeting the members of party’s manifesto committee and claimed the full shape of the scheme would be announced soon.

In addition, the party would depute a DSP rank officer at the district level, along with the support staff, to exclusively look into the incidents of violence/harassment.

Separate wing to monitor complaints

There would also be a separate wing at the State level to monitor the complaints and initiate necessary action at the earliest. “The Congress is not bothered about the safety of women and this is all too evident from the instances like Nirbhaya case in the national capital,” he said, adding though a law was enacted subsequently, the frequency of crime against women continued to rise.
