Telangana Commercial Taxes Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Tuesday announced that the State Government would set up two integrated check-posts at Saloora in Nizamabad district and Bhoraj in Adilabad district with a cost of Rs. 80 crore. Besides, seven new border check-posts would also be functional in the coming months.

Speaking after reviewing the performance of Commercial Taxes Department in his chambers, the Minister said the new check-posts in the State’s borders would be set up at Kodad, Vishnupuram, Tungabhadra (in, out), Palvancha, Kallur and Aswaraopet. Reiterating that the government was trader-friendly till they carried out business legally and paid taxes properly, he warned the evaders of tax that they would dealt with sternly.

The informer system would be strengthened to plug leakages in the tax collection and to bring down the tax evasion, the Minister said adding that the government had no plans to increase value added tax (VAT) on textiles.

Review meetings

Mr. Yadav said Commercial Taxes Department would have to play a key role in realising golden Telangana and the regular review meetings were aimed at improving the revenue by finding shortcomings in the system.

The Minister hoped that strengthening the informer system would help the government contain zero-business and also to check other irregularities.

Vacancies in the department would also be filled soon to improve the performance.
