The historic Golconda Fort that was decked up for the 71st Independence Day celebrations provided a perfect backdrop as the Telangana State displayed its traditional and folk performing arts.
Standing on the ramparts were scores of artistes of 24 Telangana Kalarupalu and Nizamia culture as also artistes performing popular art forms of other States that are equally popular in Telangana. Braving the sun, decked up in their special and colourful costumes and accessories and musical instruments, the artistes not only brought the spirit of Independence Day but also the pride in Telangana art forms to the fore.
Cultural extravaganza
It was a treat for the viewers to catch each troupe performing a typical art form, one after the other and in unison in the end reverberating the precincts of fort that seemed to come alive with the cultural extravaganza. Though each troupe got less than a minute to display their unique art form, in all they cast a spell on the gathering at the beginning and the closure of the Independence Day celebrations.
The rhythmic ‘Dappu Vayidyam’ troupe, those beating the ‘Rajanna Dolu’, Lambada dancers, graceful movements by Kommu Koya, Gussadi troupes, play of Oggu Dolu, Marapa, Sheri Baja, Gujarati Dandiya, Punjab’s Bhangra, Chindi Yaksha Ganam, alluring Bhagmathi’s graceful movements, awe inspiring Perini Tandavam and the majestic ‘Nagara’ with its special instruments, enthralled the viewers.
Giant screens
The giant screens erected on the premises captured and beamed the performances of Kalarupalu for the benefit of gathering had people craning their necks lest they missed the beautiful spectacle.
At the end of the celebrations, students of residential institutions attired in tri-colour uniforms perfomed wave formations adding to the mood.
