‘Telangana economy, a mix of Amartya Sen and Deepak Parekh’

The Telangana State government is following a mixed model of economy fusing Amartya Sen with Deepak Parekh, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao asserted in the State legislative Assembly here on Monday.

While replying to the debate on Appropriation Bill, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao said different governments adopt different economic models. Congress government adopted Mr. Sen’s model, while the NDA government at Centre adopted Mr. Parekh’s model. The Telangana government is adopting a mixed policy which includes part Parekh and part Sen, the Chief Minister said, and recalled an instance where he explained the same to the NITI Ayog Vice-Chairman Arvind Panagariya.

On the sceptic comments by the Opposition over the inflated budgetary provisions, Mr. Rao said the gap between budgeted estimates and revised estimates is very common for all States.

“We should be optimistic and dare to dream. Nobody thought separate State of Telangana would be possible. I, the man of no means ( gareeb gaadu ), believed it. Nobody dreamt of providing water for every household. Again, I, the man of no means, believed that too,” Mr. Rao said, and assured of buoyancy in Telangana’s economy. He urged the Congress members not to create hurdles for the irrigation projects and pass the Appropriation Bill unanimously.
