The stage is set for commencement of the Budget session of the Telangana Legislature on Friday even as the Opposition parties, including the Congress, the BJP and the TDP, are working out modalities to grill the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti on its alleged failures in fulfilling its promises.

The session likely to continue till March 28 tentatively is expected to witness heated debates as the opposition members are gearing up to raise issues of immediate public importance, particularly unfulfilled promises of the ruling party like construction of double bedroom houses for poor and marginal sections, three-acre land to each dalit family and enhancement of reservation for Scheduled Tribes three years after it took over the reins.

The budget session will commence with Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan’s address to the joint session of the Legislature on Friday. This would be followed by a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee where the representatives of political parties would finalise the total number of working days and the issues that should be raised during the session. The Budget session comes after the winter session of the Legislature which was in session for 18 days.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao who convened a meeting of the TRS’ legislature party on Thursday directed legislators as well as Ministers to come prepared with the subjects allotted to them to give effective replies to queries raised by the Opposition.

The main Opposition Congress convened its legislature party meeting under the chairmanship of senior leader Digvijaya Singh to fine-tune the issues that should be raised during the session. TDP MLAs and senior leaders led by party president L. Ramana and working president A. Revanth Reddy called on the Governor to represent several issues including the disqualification petition filed against the MLAs who crossed to the ruling party. BJP State president K. Laxman, at a party meeting, reiterated the party’s stand to insist on adequate allocations under the SC/ST sub-plans as also enhancement of budgetary allocations to welfare of the Backward Classes.
