Telangana bandh: Hyderabad may have more coming its way today

June 15, 2013 12:12 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:42 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Commuters will have to brace for more on Saturday as there is uncertainty over the operation of city bus services and those to neighbouring districts from the capital following a Telangana bandh call given by the TRS and the Telangana Students’ Joint Action Committee.

Though the South Central Railway declared that all MMTS and local trains that were cancelled on Friday would be restored on Saturday, there is a conflict of opinion among auto unions over supporting the bandh.

Everyday nearly 100 long distance and 900 short distance buses proceed to neighbouring districts from the Mahatma Gandhi and Jubilee bus stations till afternoon.

However, with the Telangana National Mazdoor Union deciding to participate in the bandh, majority of these buses are likely to be confined to depots.

While city AC buses are sure to be cancelled, the rest will be operated according to police instructions, said a senior RTC official.

“We cannot afford any damage to our fleet,” he said.

Despite there being no official orders, there is possibility of schools and colleges declaring holiday, citing security concerns. Commercial establishments, malls, cinema theatres are likely to be closed till afternoon.

Petroleum dealers have not taken any decision yet but would be taking a final call depending on the situation on Saturday morning.
