A 19-year-old B.Tech student going on a joyride on his newly purchased Pulsar Bike on the Necklace Road on Thursday morning hit a GHMC contract sweeper in front of Jalavihar killing her on the spot.
The student, T.V.S. Harish of Old Bowenpally, also died after his bike crashed into a road divider when he turned his head to check on the fallen woman. His classmate Mobin, who was riding pillion, sustained injuries in the incident, said Ramgopalpet Sub-Inspector P. Shiva Prasad.
Harish and Mobin are B.Tech first-year students of CMR Engineering College. The SI said Harish dropped his father Prasad at his office in the morning and told him that he was going to his meet his friend for preparing for the forthcoming exams. But he picked up his classmate Mobin and came to the Necklace Road at around 8.30 a.m. The duo had completed one round of joyride from the People’s Plaza to Sanjeevaiah Park. It was in the subsequent round that Harish failed to notice the sweeper K. Anasuya (61) of Pattigadda and hit her.
Anasuya sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. On hitting her, Harish panicked, did not stop, but turned after crossing a 100-metre distance only to end up crashing into the road divider. He sustained serious head injuries and died instantly while his classmate fractured his right knee, the SI said.
