A class VII student has been abducted by unidentified persons on his way to the school at Hayathnagar on Monday. The alleged kidnappers have demanded Rs. 50 lakh as ransom to set him free.
Suraj Singh, 13, stepped out of his grandparents’ home in Vinayaknagar colony at around 7.30 a.m. and left for Lotus Lap public school. According to police, Suraj had walked barely 50 yards when three persons in a Maruti van drove by, dragged him inside the vehicle and sped away.
A couple of hours later, the boy’s grandfather, Boor Singh, reportedly received a call on his mobile phone demanding a Rs. 50 lakh ransom to release the boy. “The boy will be dead if you approach police or fail pay the money,” the kidnappers allegedly threatened him.
The Hayathnagar police, on receipt of the complaint, traced the call to a landline public telephone booth in Malakpet. Special teams were formed to narrow down on suspects.
The boy’s father, Amar Singh, also a money-lender and his mother, Neetu Singh, a housewife, live at Maruthinagar of Dilsukhnagar.
