A software engineer who allegedly used fictitious email IDs and Facebook accounts to post defamatory messages about a woman, who spurned his marriage offer, was arrested by the cyber crime police officials in Hyderabad on Monday.
Police said M. Sai Kumar, the arrested techie, hacked the victim’s email accounts, sent obscene content from those accounts about her. He had even created false profiles on Facebook and began chatting with her friends and relatives just to defame her. He had also tried to cover up his tracks by using proxy servers, but to no avail. Cyber sleuths gathered information from different service providers and traced the obscene content to Sai Kumar. They waited for his return to India from United States and arrested him.
He is now facing charges under different sections of law including sections 66- A, 67 of IT Act 2000 and Sections 506 and 384 of the Indian Penal code.
Quoting his confession statement police said, the arrested person had initially moved decently with the woman till he gained her confidence. He shared his family problems with her and details of his road accident and befriended her. Later he proposed to her, but she declined the request. Then on, he began harassing her initially by calling her on her mobile.
Later he began to harass her with the fictitious emails and facebook posts. He has been remanded in judicial custody after he was produced in a court. Inspector M. Shiva Kumar is investigating the case.
