A case of abducting and raping a minor was registered against a software engineer after her father lodged a complaint with the S.R. Nagar police here on Friday.

According to the police, the techie, Bhavani Shankar, was engaged by the father of the victim, who is in Inter first year now, to take tuition classes in mathematics for her. The girl’s father belonged to a Scheduled Tribe and works as photographer.

“Shankar had been teaching her since she was in 10th standard. He told her that he loved and wanted to marry her,” the S.R. Nagar Inspector Mohd. Waheeduddin said. After the girl joined Intermediate course, he continued to take tuition classes for her and started meeting her outside.

On August 8, he took the girl to a temple in Langerhouz and married her. Since then, he was spending time with her at his place now and then. On learning this, the girl's father caught Shankar while the latter was moving with his daughter at S.R. Nagar and handed over him to the local police.
