The Telugu Desam Party has demanded that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao resign from his post as his role in the tapping of telephones of leaders of other political parties, the TDP in particular, has been exposed.
TDP leader E. Dayakar Rao has launched a broadside against Mr. Rao for threatening and coercing leaders of other political parties in the light of the elections to the vacant seats of the Legislative Council.
‘Blackmailing tactics’
The TRS Government stooped down to tapping telephones and blackmailing important leaders of other parties who refused to fall in line, he alleged.
“The Chief Minister should resign and tender apology to people,” he said.
The Government which initially denied charges on telephone tapping, however, admitted the facts in the court as it was afraid of getting exposed.
“The government might have tapped telephones of AP leaders, but why should the government tap telephones of Telangana leaders?” he questioned, adding this exposes the vindictive attitude of the KCR government against the Opposition parties.
‘Investors staying away’
Mr. Dayakar Rao said the government’s attitude on different issues is deterring investors from coming to Hyderabad and this in turn is leading to the spurt in unemployment.
Referring to the other issues, he said the TDP would organise a demonstration in coordination with other political parties in Warangal on August 5 in support of the demand for construction of houses for the poor. Though the government had allocated Rs. 1,000 crore for housing in the budget, it had not released the funds, the TDP leader alleged.
