The Telugu Desam Party Telangana State unit appears to be facing the threat of large-scale desertions by the party’s second rung leaders across the State following the resignation of working president and legislature party leader A. Revanth Reddy from the primary membership of the party.

The TDP-TS, which witnessed migration of 12 of the 15 MLAs in the past three years, is in yet another political crisis with several leaders firming up their decision to desert the party after the exit of Mr. Revanth Reddy.

Party senior leader and former MLA Vem Narender Reddy also left the party along with Mr. Revanth.

The party leadership is said to be in receipt of resignation letters from some of the State executive members from Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Nalgonda and more are said to be in the offing.

Several of these leaders are said to be in favour of following Mr. Revanth Reddy, who is said to be joining the Congress on October 31. Prominent among them are two senior leaders from Nalgonda, close associates of Mr. Revanth, who are likely to attend the meeting convened by the latter on Monday.

Senior leaders including some former ministers are said to be in a dilemma over the course of action - whether to follow Mr. Revanth or join the ruling TRS - given the weakened organisational set up of the TDP in Telangana.

The TRS leadership is said to be in contact with a TDP politburo member and a former minister over their possible switching over from the TDP.

A section of senior leaders close to Mr. Revanth is, however, said to have firmed up their decision to continue in the TDP.

“We supported Mr. Revanth in his fight against the ruling dispensation. We extended our support to the struggle against the Government’s policies and it does not mean we will toe Mr. Revanth Reddy’s line,” was how a politburo member reacted on the condition of anonymity.
