Making its debut in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, Qutbullapur constituency could witness a close contest between TDP and Congress candidates. With TRS party, which has good following in the constituency, withdrawing to contest the elections, both TDP and Congress parties are keen to bag maximum divisions in the constituency.
Bifurcated into seven divisions of Gajularamaram, Jagadgirigutta, Chintal, Shapurnagar, Suraram Colony, Jeedimetla and Qutbullapur, the constituency has over 2.8 lakh voters. Majority of the residents here are from low and middle income groups. Since ages, residents here are plagued with ground water pollution, industrial effluents, poor basic amenities, overflowing drains and encroachment of lands. Ganesh Nagar open nala in Qutbullapur division which overflows after a drizzle is one of the major civic issues.
Provision of safe drinking water, construction of parks and employment generation, top the issues in almost all parties' manifestoes.
“Residents here are literally depended on private water tankers to fetch drinking water. Owing to encroachments, Ganesh Nagar nala is now turned into a small drain,” says C. Sudhakar Reddy, PR candidate contesting from Qutbullapur division.
While, Congress and TDP have fielded their candidates in all the seven divisions, PR and other parties are in the fray from couple of divisions. While, Congress is said to have upper hand in Gajularamaram, Jagadgirigutta, Sharpurnagar and Suraram Colony divisions, TDP is banking on Chintal, Jeedimetla and Qutbullapur divisions.
