Tanishq Jaiswal, the diabetic student of St. Paul’s High School, won a moral victory when Hyderabad Collector Mukesh Kumar Meena, intervened and directed the school management not to disturb the boy’s study and let him continue in the school.
Mr. Meena called the boy’s parents — Neeraj Jaiswal and Vaishali Jaiswal — and St. Paul’s Principal Bro. Sudhakar Reddy, to his office on Friday to sort out the controversy arising out of the Principal’s insistence on issuing a Transfer Certificate to Tanishq.
The issue came to light following reports in these columns highlighting the plight of the parents who wanted their son to continue his studies at St. Paul’s. The Balala Hakkula Sangham also intervened and filed a petition in the Human Rights Commission which directed the District Education Officer to enquire and submit a report.
Collector’s plain speak
At Friday’s meeting, the Collector told the Principal that the question of Tanishq’s removal from school did not arise. He also asked the Principal not to put any conditions on the parents regarding furnishing of a written undertaking.
“However, it is better that an adult should administer the insulin injection instead of the child taking himself,” Mr. Meena told the parents. He gave them four days time to make arrangements to administer the injection themselves or someone else to do it on their behalf. When contacted, the boy’s parents thanked the Collector for allowing their child to continue his studies in St. Paul’s High School.
