Taking friendly policing to different level

This Sub-Inspector of Petbasheerabad police station in Cyberabad has taken the 'friendly policing', often tom-tommed by the Telangana State Government of late, to a different level.

He had 'illegally detained' a person in the police station, 'subjected him to third degree methods' and recorded the screams of the detainee 'to ensure the latter's rival was satisfied'! After the detained person A. Siva Pradeep approached higher-ups, a case of illegal detention and extortion was registered against the SI in question A. Koteshwara Rao.

The SI was absconding. “He is absent unauthorised,” said Petbasheerabad ACP Ande Srinivasa Rao confirming that the SI was facing a criminal case of extortion and illegal confinement. Sections of 385 (putting a person in fear of injury for extortion), 342 (wrongful confinement), 323 (assault) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code were invoked against the SI.

For past two days, the Petbasheerabad Inspector D.V. Ranga Reddy and the ACP Mr. Srinivasa Rao had been trying to reach the SI. He had switched off his mobile phone. He was not available at his home.

The complainant A. Siva Pradeep charged that the SI had picked him up near Balaji hospital in Petbasheerabad on April 1. “I had gone there to meet realtor Ravinder Prasad, with whom I had monetary dispute involving ₹75 lakh, after the latter called me,” the complainant told the top officials.

According to him, Mr. Prasad owed him ₹75 lakh and gave documents of his properties of land at Siddipet and house in Safilguda to him as he failed to repay the money. He maintained that, after handing over the documents a few days ago, Mr. Prasad called him to meet him at the hospital stating that he managed to secure ₹10 lakh and wanted to give the same to him.

The SI forcibly took Mr. Pradeep to the police station and tortured him for two days having snatched the documents Mr. Prasad had given to him. “As I cried for help with the SI lashing me with a rubber belt, the latter recorded the same with his mobile phone,” the complainant alleged.

According to him, the SI called up Mr. Pradeep and asked if the latter was satisfied with his work having played the recorded screams of the complainant.
