More details about the unaccounted wealth amassed by the sub-registrars caught in land scams have been revealed as the investigation into the cases deepen.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed on Wednesday that three sub-registrars, Mohammed Yusuf, T.V. Ramesh Chandar Reddy and R. Srinivas Rao, were worth ₹ 49 crore between themselves chiefly due to real estate they owned either themselves or through benamis. In the case of Mohammed Yusuf, Balanagar Sub-Registrar, the ACB pointed out that he had allegedly used his father-in-law as a benami for property while Reddy had used document writers as benamis. He had also used his driver to create benami account into which he would allegedly deposit large sums of money before transferring them to other accounts.

All three sub-registrars were arrested last month after scams involving vast areas of land came to light.
