T-Hub, a platform for the start-up ecosystem in Hyderabad will be working with global technology major United Technologies Corporation and its Hyderabad Research and Design Centre in the advanced emerging technologies laboratory.

Announcing the launch of the laboratory here on Tuesday, the representatives of UTC and T-Hub said the purpose of the emerging technology lab was to enable the global industry leaders and the start ups supported by the T-Hub work in collaboration.

T-Challenge

Under this initiative, T-Challenge was launched two months ago to invite applications from start-ups. In response 40 applications came from start ups of six countries, including Poland, US and India, working on video analytics solutions to apply for Smart City/Smart Building Nano Accelerator Programme.

Senior vice president and Head of Innovation and Strategic Alliance of T-Hub Rama Iyer said that driven by Smart Cities Mission, India has emerged as a prominent market for smart intelligent building technology systems and through the new lab, T-Hub was embarking on a strategic innovation partnership with the UTC, pioneers in providing smart, sustainable solutions. Some 10 companies were short-listed and the list could be further pruned.

Interaction

The selected companies would work with engineers from the Hyderabad Research and Design Centre of UTC in the T Hub, vice president engineering and centre head of HRDC Prakash Bodla said. The quality and pedigree of about one third of applications was high and they would work from India. The groups would start work in two to four weeks time.

Innovator community

Vice president of Global Engineering: Climate, Controls and Security of UTC John Galbraith said the initiative with the T Hub, first such start up ecosystem in India, would give opportunity to grow globally and to work with local innovators and communities.

As the UTC’s largest research and design centre with 600 engineers was in Hyderabad, it would be easy for their engineers in the HRDC to collaborate with T-Hub, he said.

Mr. Prakash said the Video Analytics Space would be open for solutions from start-ups that supplement or complement the UTC products or even develop a new product.

The UTC would expose all its products in airconditioning, refrigeration, building access control systems, video surveillance and fire safety, among others, to start ups in the T Hub.
