Renowned molecular biologist Michael N. Hall from The Biozentrum, University of Basel, Switzerland, has been chosen for this year’s Genome Valley Excellence Award.
A key component of the annual BioAsia convention series, the award will be presented to Prof. Hall at the inaugural ceremony of this year’s event at HICC on February 22.
The winner is chosen by an international advisory board consisting of eminent personalities of life sciences industry.
A note from BioAsia organisers said the award is for his pioneering work in discovering the nutrient-activated TOR (Target of Rapamycin) proteins and their central role in the metabolic control of cell growth.
His “exhaustive research proved that the TOR system adjusts cell size in response to the availability of raw materials. TOR balances constructive and destructive activities to match accumulation of cell mass with nutrient supply and other growth signals, such as hormones. Disruption of the TOR network contributes to numerous human illnesses, including diabetes and cancer, and has implications across various age-related disorders,” the note said.
One of Telangana government’s premier events, BioAsia has emerged as the pre-eminent technology and bio business convention in Asia for life sciences, pharmaceuticals and healthcare.
IT and Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao saidthe event would act as a platform for the government to invite global investors, scientists and business leaders for showcasing the “extraordinary infrastructure” in the State.
