The 11 members of the Legislative Assembly of Telangana, belonging to the Telugu Desam, will call on President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday and bring to his notice what they termed a ‘major Constitutional violation’ in Talasani Srinivas Yadav being sworn in as Minister for Commercial Taxes.

Led by Floor Leader of the TDP in the Assembly, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, and Deputy Leader A. Revanth Reddy, the delegation will narrate the sequence of events and the manner in which Mr. Srinivas Yadav was sworn in by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan.

Questions raised

“Did the Governor accept the resignation of Mr. Srinivas Yadav as TDP MLA and did he get an acknowledgement? Did Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu give a letter on Mr. Srinivas Yadav’s status at the time he decided to quit the Assembly? Why did the Governor not disqualify Mr. Srinivas Yadav straightaway? There is a shroud of secrecy over the manner in which the whole affair was handled,” they said. When contacted, Qutbullapur MLA K.P. Vivekanand said they would also approach the Election Commission of India and ask how a bulletin was issued in the Legislative Council, stating that the Telugu Desam Party in Telangana had merged with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

Referring to the disturbances in the Assembly three Saturdays ago over the TDP members allegedly insulting the national anthem by not standing up, Mr. Vivekanand pointed out that among the 11 who were suspended for the entire duration of the budget session, two of them – Manchireddy Kishan Reddy and Sandra Venkataveeraiah, were physically not present in the House. “How can they be suspended?” he asked.
