Case pertaining to a land deal was registered against TDP MLA

Telugu Desam MLA from Khanapur of Adilabad district, Suman Rathod, who had been absconding since a criminal case pertaining to a land deal in Kukatpally was registered against her, surrendered before a court at Miyapur on Friday. She was sent to Chanchalguda prison for women.

The Kukatpally Housing Board colony police, who were on the lookout for her, would take the MLA into custody for questioning in the case for one day on Saturday. They secured permission from the court as they had already filed a petition in this regard.

M. Narasimha Rao of Jogipet in Medak approached the KPHB police a few months ago alleging that his plot of 400 square yards was illegally being occupied by a doctor named B. Ratnakar. When the investigators sought to know how the doctor had purchased the plot, the doctor told them that two persons -- D. Ganesh and Venkat -- sold him the plot claiming to be its owners. “Investigation eventually revealed that the duo got the plot registered in their name by impersonating Narasimha Rao. They admitted that the deal was settled at the MLA’s quarter at Hyderguda,” Kukatpally ACP M. Malla Reddy said.

According to the ACP, the doctor had paid Rs.1 lakh and Rs.45 lakh on two occasions to the MLA at her home while an additional sum of Rs.1.35 crore was given to the duo later. The MLA went into hiding after her name cropped up in the investigation.

Her petition in the High Court for quashing the case was dismissed after which the sessions court rejected her anticipatory bail petition. She moved the High Court too for anticipatory bail, but in vain.

After hearing the MLA’s special leave petition, the Supreme Court directed her to surrender in the lower court stating that the lower court should consider her petition for bail.
