Two techies, engineering student, banker and hotel worker among those who took their lives

In a spate of suicides in the city and its suburbs since Friday, five persons, including two software engineers, ended their lives in separate incidents.

B. Swathi (26), a techie, hung herself to the ceiling fan with her ‘chunni’ at her house in Bandari Layout, Nizampet, on Saturday morning. KPHB Colony SI P. Rajesh said Swathi fell in love with her former colleague, who later met her family and promised to marry her. However, his family rejected the marriage proposal, upon which Swathi went into severe depression.

The SI said that a case under section 306 (abetment of suicide) was booked against Swathi’s boyfriend. However, no suicide note was found on Swathi who was working in an MNC at Banjara Hills.

Thirty-year-old software professional K. Sandeep also took his life by hanging himself at his residence in KPHB Colony VI phase on Friday night. Reasons behind his extreme step are not known yet.

In the third incident, Bhargavi (19), a third ear engineering student, set herself on fire in her house at Uppuguda. Police said Bhargavi fell on the ground floor after she immolated herself on the second floor leading to her death instantly. “We are collecting details to establish the cause of death,” a police official said.

Reshma (26), who was working in a private bank, ended her life by hanging at her residence at Anjaiah Nagar, Jeedimetla, on Saturday morning. A police official said Reshma took her life due to depression.

Hotel worker dead

Meanwhile, a hotel worker consumed a poisonous substance to end his life at Narsingi on Friday night. Family members of Shyam Rao (35) told police that he had been depressed over family problems.
