People take shelter under a flyover as rains lashed the city on Saturday evening.

The sudden downpour that lashed the city on Saturday evening left several low-lying areas and main roads under sheets of water, affecting traffic movement for a long time.

Motorists plying on Raj Bhavan road, Punjagutta, Moosapet-Kukatpally, Sanjeevreddynagar and other areas had to drive on water-logged roads.

People heading to their homes were stuck in traffic jams at Kukatpally ‘Y' junction, Sanjeevreddynagar, Begumpet, Mettuguda as traffic moved at snail's pace on these stretches.

Residents in Bilalnagar, Nawabsabkunta and Chatrinaka had a tough time in clearing the rainwater that gushed into their houses. Those residing near Anand Bhavan, Ganesh temple in Secunderabad, Engine Bowli and Tadban crossroads complained of water stagnation on roads.

The rain led to power disruptions in areas like Himayatnagar street No. 3, Falaknuma, Jahunuma, Shemshergunj and Chandrayangutta. Met authorities informed that the city recorded 17mm rainfall on Saturday.
