Dr. Subeer S. Majumdar, a renowned scientist in the field of animal biotechnology, has taken over as Director, National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB), an autonomous institute of Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology.
Dr. Subeer did his M.Sc from Nagpur University and Ph.d at National Institute of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi, India.
He did his post-doctoral research at School of Medicine, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, USA and at Department of Cell Biology and Physiology, University of Pittsburgh, USA. He was working at National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi prior to assuming this responsibility.
His research interest includes functional genomics using transgenic mice and rats over expressing important genes or animals with inheritable RNAi mediated knockdown of a specific gene. His group is also interested to generate transgenic farmed animals to produce costly therapeutic proteins in the milk to increase their affordability. This is the era of biotechnology and NIAB is fully committed towards working to achieve the motto of “Animal Health for Human Welfare”, said Dr. Subeer, after assuming the charge, a press release said.
