Student set on fire by friend’s family

A second year LLB student is battling for life after her friend’s family set her afire for demanding marriage in Musheerabad on Monday evening, the police said.

Twenty-one-year-old Sheela of Domalguda and Sai became friends while pursuing intermediate.

For the past one month, she has urging Sai to accept her marriage proposal. On Monday, Sai invited Sheela to his house to discuss the issue when a heated argument ensued between Sheela and Sai’s family, said Musheerabad Sub-Inspector S. Naresh.

“We recorded the victim’s statement in which she told us that Sai’s family members set her ablaze,” said Mr. Naresh. Sheela, who suffered 85 per cent burns, is undergoing treatment at the Gandhi Hospital. The police detained Sai and two of his family members.

Woman dies of burns

K. Manjula, 28, a housewife from Ibrahimpatnam, set herself ablaze and died on Tuesday, the police said. The woman reportedly doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze five days ago over family issues. She was rushed to Osmania General Hospital for treatment, where she died.

Two commit suicide

At Jubilee Hills, K. Yadagiri, 19, a resident of Rahmatnagar hanged to death at his house on Monday, the police said.

The family members of the man told the police that he slipped into depression over financial problems and might have ended his life due to that .

Housewife commits suicide

In a separate case at Narsingi, D. Mukunda, 27, a housewife who was also pursuing MBA, committed suicide by hanging at her house on Monday, the police said. Her husband, Timma Reddy, told the police that the woman was depressed over the financial condition of the family.

Found murdered

A 50-year-old woman was found murdered in an open place near her house at Bodduppal on Tuesday morning. The victim M. Laxmamma used to sell peanuts at a toddy compound after completion of her work in a farmland.

On Tuesday morning, local residents found her murdered in an open area.

The police said the assailants killed the victim by smashing her head with a boulder.

She also bore an injury on her neck.

Medipally Inspector Ravi Kiran Reddy said some persons known to the victim could have murdered her in connection with a financial dispute.
