The city was lashed by heavy rain for the second consecutive day on Tuesday as showers accompanied by hail and gusts of winds hit several colonies of the city and surrounding areas.
Preceded by extremely sultry climate during the day, the downpour began towards the evening, and continued for almost one hour, leaving many areas in the city water-logged. Ranga Reddy district was also hit by heavy rains.
Areas on the outskirts of the city like Kushaiguda, Keesara, A.S. Rao Nagar, and LB Nagar witnessed hailstorms along with heavy rains. Two heavy transmission towers of APTransco carrying power between Ghanpur and Chandrayangutta, collapsed near Bandlaguda, 12 kilometres away from Nagole, under the impact of winds, affecting the input flows to the 220 kV Chandrayangutta sub-station.
However, power supply to the city remained unaffected, as back-feeding was given form 400 kV Mamidipally sub-station, a Transco official said.
Power disruptions
Nevertheless, the rain resulted in power disruptions across the city owing to collapse of trees and poles. In all, there are 127 feeder points across the city. Two large trees were uprooted near Uppal and at Alwal, while a cell tower came crashing down at Bongulur in Ibrahimpatnam mandal, resulting in traffic chaos.
