Showcasing the colours and patterns of the Deccan region through its new design collection, ‘Golkonda', the Good Earth store was launched in Banjara Hills, here on Wednesday.
In an attempt at reviving the artistic heritage of the Deccan with a modern interpretation, the store has on display everything from luxury furniture, jewellery and textiles besides other lifestyle accessories.
Chandeliers, lamp-bases and cut-glass furniture inspired by Golkonda diamonds; quilts and cushions showcasing the traditional arts of the region from Kalamkari to Machlipatnam and those inspired from the times of Tipu Sultan find a prominent place in the store.
In keeping with the theme, intricate patterns of Bidri work from Hyderabad too, have been used in dinner sets and glasses. Photographs of the Deccan kings and queens, recounting stories of age-old civilizations, are used with floral prints on cushions and wall art.
Motifs of the past such as the tiger signifying the valour of Tipu Sultan, and elephants and palanquins denoting the kingdom of Mysore, are used in several goods, including quilts, cushions and upholstery.
Showcasing a host of other luxury retail products, majority of the goods in the store are made of natural materials and are handcrafted. Other products at the store include tableware and glasses, luxurious bed linen, pillows, skincare and home fragrances, silver plated accessories and apparel based on natural hand-spun fabrics, using traditional craft skills.
Founded by Anita Lal, the Good Earth store located on Road no 12 in Banjara Hills, also has branches in Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi and Singapore.
