City Police Commissioner, A.K. Khan on Thursday asked private security agencies to remain alert for the next few days and step up security in malls and other public places in view of a terror alert.
Speaking at a meeting organised by the City Security Wing (CSW) to sensitise private security personnel here, he said that there was specific information about a possible terror strike as alerted by the intelligence agencies. The security guards were asked to check their surveillance equipment on a regular basis and look out for persons moving suspiciously. Emphasis should be laid on regular internal audits and screening parking areas of malls thoroughly, he said.
“There have been incidents where culprits have come with bags, planted bombs in public places and walked away freely. In such a scenario, foolproof security systems will help identify the culprits. The guards manning specified areas should be in contact with each other and co-ordinate during emergencies,” Mr. Khan pointed out.
He also said that stringent action would be taken against security agencies if they ignore the safety measures.
“Visitors aged between 18 and 35 years have to be thoroughly frisked before being allowed to enter the buildings. We have 12 decoy teams to test the security measures of buildings and we are engaging them regularly for surprise checks,” he said.
The Police Commissioner said that the agencies which initiate proactive measures and help police in preventing incidents would be rewarded suitably.
The officials of CSW later demonstrated the mechanism of triggering improvised explosive devices and identifying the material used for making them.
