IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi was sent to Chanchalguda women's jail here on Thursday at the expiry of her two-day police custody in connection with the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) scam.
Inside the jail, sources said Ms. Srilakshmi wept for half-an-hour as soon as she arrived. She regained composure after the jail superintendent and watch and ward staff consoled her. She was put through a routine medical check-up and allotted the last barrack with ten other inmates. None of her family members were seen near the jail. She was earlier produced in the court of the special judge for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) cases who immediately ordered her shifting to jail since she was already remanded to judicial custody till December 12. With folded hands and on the verge of breaking down, Ms. Srilakshmi stood before the judge, B. Naga Maruti Sarma, and prayed for being spared from going to the jail as she was not keeping good health. She sought to be detained at the CBI office at Koti.
As the judge penned down his notes, she expectantly looked at a CBI officer, who escorted her, to support her plea but to no avail. Her husband and IPS officer, M. Gopikrishna, also appeared nervous.
The verdict on Ms. Srilakshmi's bail plea which was heard by the court on Thursday would be delivered on Friday.
