Srihari may take Council route

January 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Warangal MP Kadiyam Srihari, who made it to the K. Chandrasekhar Rao Cabinet on Sunday in the dramatic turn of political events, is likely to have a smooth passage for entering Telangana Legislature with an MLC seat in the MLAs’ quota beckoning him. It could be extended run of his good fortunes, as he fancies chances of getting elected as a legislator without going to people again as he made it to the State Cabinet without even a glimmer of hope from the day he was allotted TRS ticket to contest the Warangal parliamentary seat. Technically, Mr. Srihari has to fight an election to become a member of either House of the Telangana Legislature within six months.

Even if faintly, Mr. Srihari nursed hopes of becoming the Chief Minister from the day the TRS chief announced that a dalit would become the first CM of Telangana. However, his hopes were dashed when the TRS leadership decided to field him for parliamentary seat rather than for assembly.

According to legislature officials, 17 seats are likely to fall vacant by May-end in the graduates’ constituencies and MLAs’ quota in the Council. As the TRS have numbers on its side, it will be easy for Mr. Srihari to become a legislator, a constitutional prerequisite to be a member of the State Cabinet. The by-election to Warangal parliamentary seat will provide an opportunity to the opposition partiesto prove a point or two to the ruling partythough against all-odds.
