The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a software student Undavalli Girish for allegedly creating a fake Facebook profile of a female batchmate following a complaint lodged by the girl’s father.

The arrest was made based on log details of the Facebook profile and call details, a release of CID said.

During interrogation it emerged that the accused, who is a native of Jeelugumilli mandal of West Godavari district, met the girl while undergoing coaching at a software training institute at Ameerpet here.

Additional Director General of Police (CID) T. Krishna Prasad said Girish and the victim gradually developed a friendship and remained in touch over phone.

“The accused wanted to marry the victim, who, however, rejected his proposal. Girish bore a grudge against her and created a fake profile of the girl, resembling her name, on Facebook and posted her personal photographs,” Krishna Prasad said.

Girish also made abusive calls to the victim’s father and threatened him of dire consequences if his proposal for marriage to the girl was not met. Following this, the girl’s father lodged a complaint with the cyber police station.
