International Yoga Day was observed by Cabinet Ministers, civil servants, police and people from different walks of life across the city. On Thursday morning, yoga sessions began with Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, E.S.L. Narasimhan, performing around 20 asanas with students from city schools at Raj Bhavan.
“It’s our responsibility to treasure the ancient knowledge system for posterity,” Mr. Narasimhan said before the commencement of the event at his official residence.
Breathing exercises
The Governor, who attended the event along with his wife, Vimala Narasimhan, advised people to practice breathing exercises for at least 10 to 15 minutes a day. Yoga instructor Ravi Kishore conducted the session at Raj Bhavan.
Another massive yoga session was organised at Gachibowli Stadium in which Health Minister C. Laxma Reddy took part. The headquarters of all police divisions, including Rachakonda, Cyberabad and Hyderabad, observed the yoga day. At Rachakonda police headquarters at Amberpet, 600 police personnel performed yoga.
After the United Nation’s Organisation declared June 21 as International Yoga Day, dedicated to inner and outer well-being of the body, the day has been celebrated every year by many. Yoga sessions were also conducted by Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital, Bharat Dynamics Ltd and KIMS Cuddles, among others.
Government institutions, including Telangana Forest Department and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, organised events to mark the yoga day. Officials also took part in yoga sessions at district administrative offices in the city.
