The month of April holds a lot of promise for avid star gazers in the capital. Enthusiasts and amateur astronomers can gaze at and in the process identify four planets in the evening sky and one planet in early hours of this month, according to a press release from Planetary Society of India (PSI), A.P. chapter.
The planets that are visible include Venus, Mercury, Mars and Saturn will visible in the evening sky while Jupiter will be visible in the early hours, at around 5.15 a.m., towards the eastern sky throughout April.
“It's easy to differentiate a star from planet. Stars twinkle but planets only shine. Interested persons can contact us for observation sessions through telescopes,” informed general secretary of PSI, N. Sri Raghunandan Kumar in the release.
In any part of the year, two or three planets will be visible to the naked eye.
“However, this year in April, amateur astronomers can spot five planets within one single night i.e. from evening to next day morning,” Mr. Kumar added. The location of the planets for spotting can be had at www.ourplanets.com and schools can download special kit for April 5 to spot these planets.
