Muslims around the city observed ‘Shab-e-barat’ or the ‘night of deliverance’, on Friday night. It falls on the 15 of the Islamic month of ‘Shaban’. People pray in preparation for Ramzan and seek forgiveness of their sins.
Special prayers and sermons were held at different mosques across the city.
People turned up large numbers to offer prayers at the historic Mecca Masjid, Azizia Masjid at Mehdipatnam, Vazir Ali Mosque at Fateh Darwaza and Jamia Masjid Musheerabad, Jamia Masjid Jafaria, Sanathnagar, Jamia Masjid Lalaguda and Jamia Masjid Mahboob Chowk.
Religious meetings were held at Milad Grounds, Khilwat, Moghalpura playground and Qutb Shah Stadium where eminent religious scholars addressed the gatherings.
Many visited the graveyards and remembered their dear ones.
Brisk businessFlower vendors did brisk business, but many people complained of high rates in comparison to the regular days.
The GHMC authorities and Wakf Board officials cleaned up the graveyards ahead of the occasion.
Wild vegetation and garbage was removed from these places. Senior officials of the GHMC supervised the works.
