A woman software engineer committed suicide by hanging at her house at Ayyappa Society in Madhapur on Monday, police said.

Sudeshna Das (36), a native of Kolkata and an employee of a multinational firm at Madhapur, had been staying in the city for the past nine years.

On Monday, her mother Anitha Das had left home to pay the internet bill. She returned a few minutes later, but Sudeshna did not respond to her mother’s repeated knocking on the door. Sensing that something was suspicious, Anitha called up the security guard, who broke open the door and found Sudeshna hanging in her room, Madhapur Sub-Inspector B. Srinivas said.

No suicide note was found.

“We are yet to ascertain the reasons behind her death,” the SI said. “We are trying to collect more details from Sudeshna’s colleagues. Her mobile phone call data details will be analysed to find out the reasons that drove her to take such a drastic step,” he said.

The family had taken the name of one of Sudeshna’s friends and police are verifying the claim. Police have booked a case of suspicious death under CrPC Section 174.
