Snehit bags bronze in table tennis international tourney

S Fidel R Snehit of Hyderabad, won his first international medal – a bronze in team event, representing India in the 2014 Global Junior and Cadet India Open table tennis championship in Goa, according to information received here on Wednesday.

It happens to be the first medal by a Hyderabadi in the boys category after almost a decade. Snehit, India No. 3, paired with No. 4 Jeeth Chandra for the India B team. In the first match, the duo got the better of Sweden 3-2, then lost to India A 1-3 and bounced back to down India C 3-2 before losing to Singapore 0-3 in the final to settle for bronze.

“I am happy to win a medal on my international debut. Will work hard to get more international exposure this year,” Snehit said in a communication. His coach at the Global Table Tennis Academy Somnath Gosh, was delighted with his ward’s performance. “This medal should boost his morale for the coming event,” said the coach.
