SMR gated community residents cry foul

April 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - HYDERABAD:

After spending a bomb, residents of this plush gated community never expected that they might have to stage street protests for basic housing conditions promised to them.

All sorts of wires dangling dangerously in an unfinished parking lot, elevators devoid of safety systems, low security and erratic water supply system are just a few of the issues plaguing the residents of KKR’s SMR Vinay Fountainhead in Miyapur.

The complex houses more than 900 flats, some unfinished, in various blocks out of which 400 are occupied. About 100 flat occupants, mostly residing since years, had taken to streets vexed with the attitude of the builders in failing to provide the amenities promised to them.

Representations

“We have submitted a list of 23 issues in the form of representations twice in the last 10 months without any result,” charged Swati Agarwal, a flat owner staying in one of the blocks for two years.

“Despite paying a monthly maintenance of Rs 4,000, there are no professional housekeeping staff or security personnel. The STP is also not maintained well, so are tanks and sumps.”

The residents informed that they are left with no choice but to protest again.

“The builders have clearly failed to deliver a decent community. While other big projects with similar pricing and maintenance are providing better facilities, our builders have not even finished constructing half of the flats. Heaps of concrete waste is dumped around and nothing is being done even after we complained about it,” said Ravi K., another resident.

Power fluctuations, parking issues and leakages at various points are the other problems the owners are beset with.

When contacted, the management of the KKR’s SMR Vinay Fountainhead failed to respond.
