Six persons, including two reporters of a vernacular daily, who cheated people after collecting money by promising jobs in the Telangana Secretariat, were caught by the CCS of Hyderabad police on Saturday. The police seized Rs. 3.2 lakh from them.

The kingpin of the racket, Srikonda Ashok (47), a class four employee on OU campus along with Vadlur Shiva Prasad (36), a private employee, and Mallikanti Ramesh (33), a computer operator, Bonam Sudhakar (32), a CT scan technician, Y Chandrakanth Goud (28) and K Nagaraju, both reporters of a Telugu daily, cheated four persons, the police said. One of their associates, Ranga Babu, is said to be absconding. Ashok along with his associates collected Rs. 9 lakh from four persons, Muneeruddin, E Srinivas Reddy, K Jyothsana and M Kishore. He promised the post of junior assistant in the Finance department in Telangana Secretariat through backdoor recruitment. “In November, Ranga Babu, posing as a senior official, interviewed the victims and told them that all of them were selected for the post of junior assistant. Fake confirmation letters were also given to them,” Additional Commissioner (crimes) Swati Lakra said.

The fraud came to light when one of the victims, Muneeruddin, who received the confirmation letter for the job of a data entry operator, instead of junior assistant promised to him, approached the police.
