Fifteen persons, including six New Year revellers, were killed in road accidents in Hyderabad and the neighbouring Ranga Reddy district since Monday night.

Three friends, A. Kondaiah, 25, A. Raju, 20, and P. Narsaiah, were killed when the bike they were riding was hit by an unidentified heavy vehicle near Ganded mandal headquarter of Ranga Reddy in the early hours of Tuesday. The trio belonged to Kommireddipally village. They went to Salkaripet to greet a friend and were returning home around 2.30 a.m.

Prabhakar, 20, and Naresh, 21, contract workers, died after a lorry hit the bike they were riding on the service road near Vattinagulapally in Rayadurg. A DLF employee, Sudhir Kumar, 27, died, while his colleague riding pillion suffered injuries when the motorcycle they were riding skidded on the road near Gachibowli substation in Raidurg. V. Truck overturns

A GHMC contract driver, Janardhan, got killed, while cleaner Narsimha suffered wounds when the lorry he was driving overturned after hitting a roadside tree near Bata showroom in Secunderabad in the early hours. An electrician Rammohan, 33, of Banjara Hills died in a hit-and-run case while he was crossing the road near MGIT college in Gandipet.

Narsimha and Pavan, both in their early 20s, were killed after the bike they were riding ploughed into a roadside culvert at Gowthapur in Tandur of Ranga Reddy district around 2.30 a.m.

Three childhood friends from Karimnagar district pursuing engineering course here were killed when they set out on a bike to celebrate the New Year and hit a divider near Srinagar colony ‘T’ junction after Monday midnight.

Vikhyatha Rao, Sravan and Harish were coming from KBR Park side to Panjagutta apparently at a high speed when their Yamaha FZ bike hit the median around 12.30 a.m. The three students aged about 21 years were flung off the bike and fell on the other side of the road.

“Even before they could get up, an Indica coming from NFCL rotary side rammed them. The trio got crushed between the divider and the car,” Banjara Hills Inspector P. Murali Krishna said.

While the scared driver fled abandoning the car, passers-by tried to shift the grievously injured to hospitals in vehicles available there.

This, however, took a bizarre turn. The unidentified persons carrying Rao and Harish abandoned the two victims on the roadside near Journalists Colony.

Police believe they were being taken to Apollo Hospital. They could have died en route and scared of the consequences the persons shifting them deserted the bodies and fled.

Meanwhile, another group of persons shifted Sravan Reddy to OGH where doctors declared him brought dead. By the time the Banjara Hills police rushed to the spot, all that they could find were the damaged car and bike.
