Six children rescued from biscuit-making unit

Labour Department officials on Friday rescued six children from a biscuit making establishment in Balakrishna Nagar, Srinagar Colony of Ramanthapur.

The six children, including Ch.Daniel Raju, V.Ram, Ch.Jaswa Raju, G.Chintu, Jakka Raju and D. Shiva were aged between 12 and 13 years were working since last two months at the establishment, which lacked a name board, said Deputy Commissioner of Labour S. Naresh Kumar, in a press release. After rescue, the children were shifted to the Government Home for Boys, Saidabad, for producing before the Child Welfare Committee.

The employer – P. Maheswar Reddy was served with a demand notice of Rs.20,000 each child. This apart, prosecution under section 3 of Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act was also being launched against the employer, he added.
