Over 300 members of Andhra Pradesh Sikh Welfare Association staged a peaceful demonstration in front of the American Consulate in the city on Monday, a press release said.

Armed with placards and banners, the members of the association condemned the death of six Sikhs during a shootout at Sikh Gurdwara in Wisconsin.

A delegation, led by S. Iqbal Singh, S. Harbans Singh and S. Pritam Singh, submitted a memorandum to the Consulate officials to ensure that such incidents do not recur. They also denounced the act of violence and hate crimes committed against the Sikh community in US, particularly after the 9/11 attack in New York. They also called upon the American law-makers to assure Sikhs of their safety and protection to their religious structures, the release said.
