The Labour Department has warned shopkeepers that strict action will be initiated against them if they do not display signboards in Telugu language also.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Labour Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu said show cause notices were being issued to shop owners who failed to display the name of the shop in Telugu language.

The department found that many big shops were not following the guidelines and it was decided to give time till Ugadi. “We will not hesitate to remove the signboards of the shops which fail to adhere to the rule,” he said.

He said the department planned to make Andhra Pradesh a child labour-free State by January next and had accordingly initiated steps.
